Self-managed artist and label owner Katie Thompson first made a name for herself in 2009 when she became the first country artist in the world to raise $50,000 via crowdfunding platform Sellaband. This year the MMF Music Managers’ Achievement Award was presented to Katie Thompson for the outstanding achievements in her work with Quirky Music, her own music services company.

Katie’s key achievements as a musician and music services provider to date include:

Opening act for Sir Elton John’s NZ show in 2011
Finalist for Female Artist of the Year, 2012 NZ CMA
Released two albums and an EP
Completed three national tours (NZ)
Raised over $150,000 in crowdfunding for artists
Winner of May 2014 Wildcard Chart
First Australasian artist to win ArtistSignal – a global online music competition in 2014

Most recently Katie was also selected to be part of a global music project being run by worldwide music platform, Global Rockstar, where she was flown to Vienna in August 2015 and collaborated with five other international artists to write and record the single ‘To the Moon’, and shoot an accompanying music video and documentary. The single has received worldwide recognition – hear it at

Recently Katie also worked on promotion for The Warratahs with their album release and national tour. The album remained in the NZ Albums charts for over 8 weeks and the band played a number of sold out shows. Katie was the opening act for the South Island leg and worked tirelessly to gain as much exposure as possible for the band.

With a Dip. Business Management under her belt and a drive to help other artists, the natural progression has been to build Quirky Music into a music services company for independent artists, while continuing to develop her own music career.

See for more.
